Road Maintenance

Maintenance of our roads is always a priority for the R.M. of Frenchman Butte. We strive to keep all of our roads in good condition year round. Our R.M. owns and operates a backhoe, D6 Cat, wheel loader, scraper, graders, and gravel trucks to provide grading, gravelling, dust control and snowploughing services on our municipal roads. Gravelling and grading are undertaken as necessary each year and these jobs are normally done on a priority basis.

Ratepayers requiring gravel, grading, snowplowing, or dust control are asked to please contact the R.M. Office directly for these services.  

Custom snow ploughing can be requested on either a single job basis or can be arranged to be done on a continual basis over the winter season.

The R.M. currently charges a custom rate of $170.00/hr + GST for grading and snowplowing ($75.00 minimum charge).

Dust Control


2022 Season
See section 4 of the policy to see if you qualify.
If you qualify it will be $210.00 for 150 metres.
If you don't qualify you can still get it at 100% of the cost which is $700.00 for 150 metres.
Anything over the 150 meters can be purchased for $5.00/metre.

The use of a dust suppressant is meant to control dust on the roadway, not to eliminate it completely.

Gravel


Ratepayers are eligable to purchase 3/4" crushed gravel through the RM.


3/4 " Gravel Cost:

  • $15.00 / yard
  • $0.50 / yard to load
  • $0.40 / yard / mile hauling charge

Grading


If you wish to have your driveway graded, it is done when the grader is in your area. You must sign a Liability Release and Authorization Form each season. The cost is  $170.00/hour ($75.00 minimum charge) everytime it is done.

Grading of roads is done on a regular rotation basis with grid roads and high traffic roads receiving first priority.

Snow Ploughing


There are two options for snowploughing of driveways when the grader is in the area ploughing municipal roads.  Snowploughing of driveways is one pass into the yard and one pass out of the yard.

Option 1: To have your driveway ploughed everytime the grader goes by and you will be invoiced $170.00/hour ($75.00 minimum charge) everytime it is done.  An annual Liability Release and Authorization Form must be signed prior to the driveway being ploughed the first time in each winter season.

Option 2: To have only occasional snowploughing of your driveway, you are required to contact the R.M. office to request snowplough service and you will be invoiced $170.00/hour ($75.00 minimum charge) for each request.  An annual Liability Release and Authorization Form must be sigend prior to request for snowplough service.

Snowploughing of roads is done with high traffic roads receiving first priority.
